It was supposed to be Blekinge in a small cottage by the
sea.
A change compared to the sea they had back home in Norrtälje.
A small little cottage in Blekinge. That was what Maggan had decided,
and she rarely changes her mind.
That's why the couple
decided to
look for a house in Blekinge by the sea.
After five years of searching, they had found their house.
It was huge and it was in a very bad shape and in Skåne.
The farm was called Brantås and was as far from the dream
house as possible. Very close to Ystad, though.
"We'll take it," Maggan said. This was in
2000 and the summer was over.
In Norrtälje Ulf still had his painting business to run.
A women moving in to that deserted house was out of the question, with autumn
winds
howling around the hundreds of square meter.
"It's all-right if you go home to Norrtälje" Maggan said to Uffe, lit a flash-light
and went
for her evening walk around her new area. Her company was a wildcat who
later gave birth to
Krister and David, the farm-cats.
She started drawing a blueprint of twelve rooms, a banquet room and
a hen house. Here
was to be a Bed & Breakfast with fresh eggs from the
farm. A little further in
the program, in 2001, Uffe closed down his business in Norrtälje and
joined his wife in Skåne and the work began. Painting, sawing, hammering,
brick laying and so forth. Qualified decorator Uffe and
meter-maid Maggan had all of a sudden become hotel hosts.
A new way of life. All for the better. In short, everything
for the better.
The old farm, situated in county Skåne soil has been improved hugely.
A bunch of Polish geese is rocking around the calm pond. " But the geese
are Italian,
beautiful and a rare breed. Immigrants from Poland." Says the proud "mom" Maggie.
As well as Ivar the rooster and the turkey with no name.
Rooster Brantås Ivar and the hens are a gift from good friends from another
part of Skåne.
The Peacocks has arrived from somewere else.
All together a magnificent bird farm that the fox shows very much interest in.
Before Brantås rooster Ivar done his COCK-A-DOODLE-DOO in the morning,
Uffe is already up and preparing a breakfast-buffet,
which is served in the dining-room. The dining-room is
perfect for conferences, birthday parties and weddings for up to 70 persons
at the same time.
At these occassions Maggan will get help from a catering-firm.
Food , good food, is as we all know, not a problem in county Skåne.
After shopping in Ystad's farm shops you are welcome to enjoy the delicacies in the dining-room
Why not sit by the pond having a barbeque and listen
to the ducks or the frogs chatter.
Some culture: the Danish artist Niels Krog often shows his handcraft from Greenland
at Brantås.
"Beautiful things" Uffe says and tries on an Eskimo hat that fits perfectly during the winter
in county Skåne.
If there is some barking at Brantås don't be surprised.
It´s only the friendly dogs. What breed? Several, all in one.
They are the best, according to Maggan. The two cats, David and Krister, are not so bad either.
